| Background | OR6C70 encodes an olfactory receptor that belongs to the large G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily responsible for detecting odorant molecules. Like other olfactory receptors, OR6C70 is expressed in the olfactory epithelium, where it couples to G olf proteins to activate adenylyl cyclase, elevate cAMP, and initiate neuronal signaling leading to smell perception. OR6C70, like most olfactory receptors, is a single-exon gene encoding a 7-transmembrane domain protein. Although primarily involved in olfaction, members of the OR6 family have also been detected in non-olfactory tissues, suggesting potential roles in cell signaling, chemotaxis, or tissue-specific physiological regulation beyond the nasal epithelium. |
