| Background | OR2T12 encodes an olfactory receptor that belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily and is part of the large olfactory receptor gene family responsible for odor recognition. OR2T12 is expressed in the olfactory epithelium, where it binds specific odorant molecules and couples to G olf proteins to activate adenylyl cyclase, increase cAMP, and trigger neuronal depolarization for smell perception. Like other olfactory receptors, OR2T12 is a single-exon gene encoding a 7-transmembrane domain protein. Emerging studies suggest that some olfactory receptors, including OR2T12, may also be expressed in non-olfactory tissues, potentially participating in cell signaling and chemosensory responses outside the nasal cavity. |
