| Background | IGFBP2, also known as insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 2, is a secreted glycoprotein belonging to the insulin-like growth factor-binding protein family. It binds insulin-like growth factors IGF1 and IGF2 with high affinity and regulates their stability, distribution, availability, and interaction with IGF receptors. Through these activities, IGFBP2 modulates IGF-dependent cellular processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, survival, migration, and apoptosis. IGFBP2 can also exert IGF-independent effects through interactions with cell-surface molecules, extracellular matrix components, and intracellular partners. It is expressed in multiple tissues and biological fluids and plays important roles in development, metabolism, tissue homeostasis, and tumor biology. Aberrant IGFBP2 expression has been reported in several cancers, making it a potential biomarker and therapeutic research target. |
